Rockford man, busted for 73 pounds of marijuana, sentenced 17 years

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) — A Rockford man busted for possessing 73.8 pounds of marijuana was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Thursday.

Martin Martinez, 52, previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver cannabis.

Martinez was arrested as part of a narcotics raid in September 2018. The investigation led Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies to a vehicle owned by Martinez.

In the vehicle, deputies found buckets and numerous plastic bags containing a green plant material, which tested positive for 73.8 pounds of marijuana.

Deputies also recovered a cardboard box with Martinez’s name printed on it. The box contained numerous digital scales, plastic bags and vacuum sealers.

Martinez is required to serve at least half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
